Jim Guerrieri was appointed to the position of associate/acting head women's wrestling coach in January of 2022 at New Jersey City University. He joins the Gothic Knights with nearly six decades of wrestling experience, both as a coach and competitor.

Having spent decades in service with the United States Army, Guerrieri most recently coached at Middletown High School South as the head wrestling coach in the mid-2000s and also spent time as the head coach at Christian Brothers Academy in the late-70s.

As a wrestler, he competed from middle school all the way to the age of 42 years old. He won several tournament championships as a middle school grappler and then competed as a lightweight at Middletown High School, winning various tournament titles there, as well. In 1967, he was selected to represent his school in international greco-roman and freestyle competition, where he traveled all over the United Kingdom and Denmark without losing a match. Upon his return as a junior to Middletown High School, he was the district and regional champion, the state runner-up and the state freestyle champion.

Collegiately, Guerrieri competed at Bemidji State College (now University) as a freshman in 1969 for the Beavers' then-NAIA wrestling program before suffering an injury. He resumed his collegiate career at Brookdale Community College as a sophomore in 1971 and in 1972, as a team captain, he won the New Jersey State freestlye championship at 115 pounds. The program was discontinued following that season, but he continued to compete in area tournaments at a championship level all the way into his early 40s.

A 1976 graduate of Montclair State University, Guerrieri earned a B.A. in physical education and health. He then graduated from the New Jersey Military Academic in 1981 before earning three more advanced degrees with the U.S. Army throughout the 90s.
