Sophia Zaragoza, LAT, ATC joined the New Jersey City University sports medicine department as an athletic trainer in February of 2024.

Her role with the Gothic Knights see her assist the head and assistant athletic trainers with the day-to-day operations of the sports medicine department, which including coverage of practices, competitions, prevention, treatment and rehabilitation of injuries.

She is certified by the National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA) Board of Certification and licensed by the New Jersey and New York State Board of Medical Examiners. Zaragoza joined the NJCU athletic department through the partnership with JAG Physical Therapy.

Previous to her time with the Gothic Knights, she served as a student athletic training intern during her clinical studies with Dartmouth College and public/private high schools in the New Hampshire area.

Zaragoza is a 2022 graduate of Colby-Sawyer College in New London, N.H., with a bachelor of science degree in athletic training — she also earned a coaching certificate. During her time with the Chargers, she was also a four-year student-athlete as a member and two-year captain of the women's rugby program. Additionally, she was a student-athlete advisory committee (SAAC) member representing women's rugby. Zaragoza also interned with the CSC sports medicine department.

She currently resides in her native Tabor, N.J. Personally, she is specifically interested in the psycho-social impact of exercise and pain management. Outside of college athletics, Zaragoza still plays competitive rugby in New York City.
