Freshman runner Jose Recinos is the NJCU Men’s Athlete of the Week for the first time in his career after breaking the New Jersey City University men's cross country 8K modern record to lead the Gothic Knights at the New Jersey Athletic Conference Championship on the Stockton University Course in Galloway, N.J. on November 2. Recinos ran a time of 27:27.5, breaking the record of 27:34.9 by Joseph Carroll in 2005.

The program as a whole also made history, as the fifth-place NJAC finish was the best since the program was re-launched in 2003. The Knights finished 11 points ahead of Rutgers University-Camden and 15 points ahead of Rutgers-Newark.

Jose’s record is another example of the bar these young men are setting,” head coach Patrick O’Neill said. “This course bottlenecks about 200 meters in, with a sharp left turn. He did a great job of not getting caught up in the congestion and moved up shortly after. The first mile went out a lot quicker than we would have liked, but he didn’t get rattled and executed our in-race strategy perfectly.”
