New Jersey City University sophomore All-American EBONY BARNES (Elizabeth, NJ/Elizabeth) is the Women's Athlete of the Week for the fifth time this year after she captured her first Division III Eastern College Athletic Conference career title, crushing the field in the 100-meter dash, and placed second in the 200 meters, at the 2007 ECAC Outdoor Track and Field Championship.

Barnes, who is now a four-time All-ECAC performer in her two-year outdoor career, single-handedly scored 18 of NJCU’s 20 points in the championship, as the Gothic Knights finished 14th of 43 scoring institutions in the overall team standings. NJCU had the second best finish of the four New Jersey Athletic Conference schools that qualified for the ECAC event.

Barnes matched the best time of her career in the finals, clocking 12.18 seconds to blow away the field. The second place time was 12.56 by Oneonta’s Maureen Verdier. That time matched the mark Barnes achieved on April 14, and is better than the NCAA provisional qualifying mark of 12.32.

In the 100 meter preliminaries, Barnes timed 12.58 seconds—nearly 2/10 of a second better than the field—and finished first of 15 ECAC qualifiers.

In the 200-meter dash, Barnes listed second of 19, in 25.42 seconds, while running into a head wind measuring 1.3.

She will compete in the NCAA Championships this week in the 100 and 200-meter dashes.
