For the second time in his career, senior forward MARCELO CARPIO (Clifton, NJ/Clifton) has been selected as the first NJCU Men's Athlete of the Week for the 2007-08 athletic year. The striker registered a natural hat trick in the first half of a 6-1 win over Clarkson University on September 2, igniting the Gothic Knights (1-1-0) to their first win of the season on September 2, in the second round of the Lotto North Country Classic at Saint Lawrence University.  He was named to the All-Tournament Team for his efforts.

In two games, Carpio scored three goals, tallied 11 shots (5.5 per game) and seven shots on goal (3.5 per game). He had all three of NJCU’s shots on goal against St. Lawrence University on September 1.

In the win over Clarkson, Carpio, who scored 10 goals in 2005 but only three times in 2006 in 387 minutes, matched his goal output from last year in less than 17 minutes, putting the game away with the first hat trick of his career and his sixth multiple goal game. He now has 16 goals in three seasons at NJCU.

Carpio opened the scoring at 11:53. After receiving a feed with his back to the goal that set up a 50-50 opportunity against the opposing keeper, he tapped a winner to the right of the keeper.

At 26:20, Carpio scored the eventual game-winner when he received a throw-in into the box, beat a defender, and drilled a shot into the upper corner from six yards out. Just 2:14 later, he made it a 3-0 contest at 28:34. when he raced from the top of the box, and finished a one-timer off a feed from the left endline.
