For the third time in his career, junior midfielder EDISON BILBAO (Carteret, NJ/St. Benedict’s Prep) has been selected as the NJCU Men's Athlete of the Week.

This week he has been selected to the D3Kicks.com National Team of the Week for week two of the 2007 season. His selection marks the second time in his career he has been honored by D3Kicks.com with a weekly award.

Bilbao was also named the New Jersey Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week for the first time in his career. He was also last selected to the D3Kicks.com Team of the Week on September 5, 2006—the inaugural week of awards for the Division III soccer website that began coverage in 2006.

Bilbao, a First-Team All-NJAC, First-Team NSCAA All-Metro Region, and Third-Team D3Kicks.com All-Region selection last year, was key for the Gothic Knights (3-2) in a 2-1 week of results, including a near upset of #6 ranked North Carolina Wesleyan College in the championship game of the 4th annual NJCU Liberty Cup.

Bilbao, NJCU’s 2007 Thomas M. Gerrity Scholar Athlete of the Year, tallied eight points last week with three goals, two assists, and two game-winning goals. He was named to the All-Tournament Team at the NJCU Liberty Cup for the third consecutive year to open his collegiate career. It was the second time this season he was named to an All-Tournament Team, having been selected at the St. Lawrence University Lotto Classic on September 2.

In NJCU’s 9-0 win over John Jay College on September 5, Bilbao ignited NJCU’s offensive attack with a record-tying tally just 23 seconds into the game—matching the fastest goal to start a game in school history. He finished with a goal and an assist in the contest.

In NJCU’s 10-0 blanking of College of Staten Island on September 8 in the opening round of the Liberty Cup, he scored two goals, including the game-winner, while playing only the first 27 minutes of the contest.

In NJCU’s 4-3 loss to #6 ranked North Carolina Wesleyan, he provided a pinpoint free kick that assisted NJCU’s second goal of the game. The Knights led 2-0 and 3-1, before the Battling Bishops mounted a comeback in the final 40 minutes during a 10-on-10 situation.

Overall this season, Bilbao is tied for the team lead with 11 points, and has collected four goals and three assists. He ranks tied for second in the NJAC in shots (18), points (11), and game-winning goals (2), tied for third in goals (4) and goals per game (0.80), tied for fourth in points per game (2.20) and assists (3), and seventh in shots per game (3.60).
