For the second time this season and the third time in his career, senior forward MARCELO CARPIO is the NJCU Men's Athlete of the Week after he contributed four points in two games for the Gothic Knights, who opened an NJAC schedule 4-0 for the first time in the 49-year history of the program. Now at 4-1 overall in the NJAC, NJCU is tied for first place in the conference.
In NJCU’s 3-1 win over Kean University on September 26, Carpio gave NJCU a 1-0 lead at 21:19 when he was able to slip a one-timer under the Kean keeper from left wing and into the right side of the net. It was Carpio’s seventh goal of the season and 20th of his three-year NJCU career. At 60:50 of the second half, his feed from the right wing into the box set up NJCU’s third goal of the game for his first assist of the year.
In a 2-1 overtime loss at Richard Stockton College on September 29, Carpio set up the first goal of the game as the Knights moved ahead 1-0 at 67:03 of the second period, before falling in overtime.
In the NJAC statistical rankings, though games of October 1, Carpio ranks third in shots (39) and shots per game (3.25), is tied for third in points (18) and goals (8), sixth in goals per game (0.67), and tied for sixth in points per game (1.50).
