Freshman goalkeeper KELLY REILLY of the women's soccer team is the NJCU Women's co-Athlete of the Week for the first time in her career after she posted her top two performances to date, stopping 38 shots in goal in two games.
On September 26 when NJCU visited Kean University, she made a career-high 21 saves for the Gothic Knights, even as Kean outshot NJCU, 39-6, including 22-4 on net. She helped NJCU force double overtime against Kean—a 2006 NCAA Division III Tournament qualifier—before losing 1-0 with just 41.2 seconds remaining. NJCU forced overtime in a conference game for the first time since a 2-1 loss at Rutgers University-Camden on October 20, 2001.
Kean had a 15-2 edge in shots at the end of the first period, and after a 10-1 margin in the second period, led 25-3 in that category heading in overtime. Reilly stopped 14 of her 21 shots in regulation with four of her overtime saves coming in the second extra session.
In a loss to Richard Stockton College on September 29, Reilly made 17 saves for the Gothic Knights.
On the season through September 30, Reilly leads the New Jersey Athletic Conference in saves (90), saves per game (10.00), ranks second in shutouts per game (0.44), is tied for third in shutouts (4), fourth in save percentage (20 GA, 90 Saves, .818) and 10th in goals against average (2.17).
