Freshman leftfielder ROB GONZALEZ (Brick, NJ/Brick Memorial) is the NJCU Men’s Athlete of the Week for the first time in his career after he had a stellar first three games of his NJAC career, hitting .615 with eight hits (8-13), four runs, and two RBIs while posting multiple hits in every game. He also walked twice and had a .667 on-base percentage.

 

In a doubleheader sweep of Richard Stockton College on March 28, as NJCU won 5-3 and 12-9, he scored four runs and had two RBIs while hitting 5-for-8 in the twinbill. In a loss to William Paterson University on March 27, he added a 3-for-5 showing.

 

In game one against Stockton, Gonzalez was 2-for-3 with two runs. He drew a walk and scored NJCU’s second run for a 2-0 lead. In the seventh inning, his bunt single set up the game-winning hit and he came around to score the fifth run of the game as NJCU won 5-3.

 

In game two against Stockton, Gonzalez went 3-for-5 with two runs and two RBIs. Trailing 6-0, NJCU got three runs back in the bottom of the second inning when Gonzalez had a two-run single to left, before scoring on a throwing error. He had a single in the fourth inning to load the bases, before NJCU scored six runs in the frame. His bunt single in the fifth moved the eventual winning run from first to third base.
