WEEK of: APRIL 6-12, 2009
Freshman second baseman ROB GONZALEZ (Brick, NJ/Brick Memorial) is the NJCU Men’s Athlete of the Week for the second time in his career as he continued to be the spark at the top of the Gothic Knight lineup. In a 1-1 week he hit .500 going 5-for-10 with five runs and five stolen bases.

In a 6-2 win over College of Staten Island on April 8 as NJCU swept the 2009 Bayonne Bridge Series, Gonzalez was 2-for-5 with four stolen bases. Gonzalez extended his hitting streak to nine games and swiped four of NJCU’s seven bases in the game while the Knights were only caught once. Gonzalez became the third different player on record in school history to steal four bases in a game, joining Rob Sumner, who stole a record five against Cazenovia College on April 24, 2005 and four at Lehman College on April 11, 2006 and Bruce Reibis who had four against Ramapo College in 1978, as the only players to have ever accomplished the feat.

In a loss at William Paterson University on April 10, he was 3-for-5 with a steal and scored four of NJCU’s eight runs.
