Sophomore midfielder Aboubacar Diawara (Bayonne, NJ/Bayonne) of the men’s soccer team and junior goalkeeper Brittany Hoffman (McMurray, PA/Peters Township) of the women’s soccer team are the New Jersey City University Athletes of the Week for October 21, 2013. The honor is for the period of October 14-20, 2013. Diawara wins the award for the fourth time in his career—all this year—while Hoffman receives the distinction for the third time in 2013 and sixth time in her career.

Diawara, a 6-foot-0, 160-pound Criminal Justice major, wins the award for the second week in a row after scoring twice and providing an assist in a 1-2 week of results for the Gothic Knight booters. He attempted nine shots in three games, with five on target (.556).
In a 6-2 non-conference victory over St. Joseph’s College (LI) on October 14, he netted the first two goals for the Knights in the 20th and 36th minutes to stake NJCU to a 2-1 halftime advantage. The markers were his team-leading seventh and eighth goals of the season. He played 54 minutes in the positive result, finishing with four shots (two on goal).
In a 4-1 loss to #8 ranked Montclair State University, Diawara’s beautiful cross led to a 57th minute score to bring NJCU within two goals of the Red Hawks. It was his second helper of the season. He played 80 minutes, putting three of his five shots on net. He also played 46 minutes in a 7-0 loss at Rutgers-Newark.
Diawara was previously the Athlete of the Week on September 2 and 9 and October 14.
