Thomas Hunter is the NJCU Men's Athlete of the Week after he won the 2006 New Jersey Athletic Conference championship in the 100-meter dash as he automatically qualified for the NCAA championship and blew away the field when he sprinted to the finish in a school record 10.52 seconds.  It was the fourth fastest time in the nation so far this season. It was one of four events NJCU scored first place finishes at the NJAC meet. He eclipsing the NJCU mark of 10.59 collected by teammate Ronald Hussey just three weeks ago at the New Jersey Invitational (April 15). That time eclipsed the NCAA automatic standard of 10.58 and was 23/100th of a second faster than any other athlete. In the 100-meter preliminaries, Hunter also finished first in 10.70 seconds.

One week after breaking the all-time Division III national record in the 4x100-meter relay, Thomas Hunter also paced the New Jersey City University tandem which easily broke the New Jersey Athletic Conference mark. A week after becoming the first Division III team in history to ever run faster than 40 seconds (39.95), NJCU cruised to the NJAC title in the 4x100 relay in 41.23 seconds, breaking the conference record of 41.37 by Rowan in 2003.
