JERSEY CITY, NJ (www.NJCUGothicKnights.com)...Richard Stockton College received two brilliant pitching performances and posted a pair of four-hit shutouts to close in on a berth in the 2010 New Jersey Athletic Conference Tournament as the Ospreys defeated New Jersey City University, 14-0 in five innings and 6-0, in an NJAC doubleheader on April 24 at the Thomas M. Gerrity Athletic Complex. On the final home date of the season it was Senior Day and NJCU honored senior left fielder and right-handed pitcher TARA PERRUCCI (East Rutherford, NJ/Wallington).
With the pair of wins, Stockton upped its mark to 21-9 and 9-5 in the league, winning for the seventh time in eight games. The Ospreys are fourth in the league with 18 points. NJCU (14-20, 1-13 NJAC) dropped its sixth straight game. Stockton leads the all-time series, 48-7.
Perrucci, the lone senior on the 2010 squad was honored in pre and post-game ceremonies. She extended her all-time career record by playing and starting in her 150th and 151st games.
In game one, sophomore right-hander Jaime Gasko (Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) and freshman righty Heather Corica (Iselin, NJ/JFK) combined for a five-inning, four-hitter in game one. Each pitcher allowed two hits and struck out three without issuing a walk. Gasko improved to 8-1 on the year with her 3.0 inning assignment while Corica concluded the final two innings.
In game two, senior righty Kaitlyn Corica (Iselin, NJ/JFK) tossed a complete-game gem. In 7.0 innings, she allowed four hits and no runs, struck out nine and walked two for the win (6-5).

She slugged a three-run homer in the first inning before adding her fifth knock of the year in the fourth. In between she also drove in a run with her seventh double.

Sophomore third baseman Danielle Accardi (East Brunswick, NJ/Mount St. Mary) went 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI. ******GAME 2: RICHARD STOCKTON COLLEGE 6, NEW JERSEY CITY UNIVERSITY 0 ******
Game two was a pitcher's duel between Kaitlyn Corica and Perrucci for much of the early going. The Ospreys scored single runs in the third and fifth innings before putting the game out of reach with four runs in the bottom of the sixth.
Stockton, which used 17 players, had nine hits in the nightcap, with two players tallying multiple hits. Sophomore catcher Vicki DeGaetano (Hammonton, NJ/Hammonton) was 2-for-3 with one RBI and junior left fielder Laura Dubell (Piscataway, NJ/Piscataway) went 2-for-3. Each player had one double and four of the Ospreys' nine hits were two-base hits. Freshman Jenna Kinter (Hamilton, NJ/Hamilton) had a two-run pinch hit double in the four-run sixth inning.
Junior center fielder STEPHANIE GOMEZ (South Plainfield, NJ/Belleville) was 2-for-3 with a double for NJCU. Rudick and freshman third baseman REBECCA SATZ (Morris Plains, NJ/Morristown) added hits. Perrucci (6-9) allowed six runs and nine hits with two walks in 6.0 innings.
NJCU had chances to score but were unable to push home a run. Gomez doubled with one out in the first, but Satz' line drive to left was caught on a dive by Dubell. In the third inning, Rudick singled with one out, Ginter walked and Gomez loaded the bases with a bunt single. But NJCU left the bags full when Kaitlyn Corica was able to coerce a fielder's choice on Satz, resulting in a force at the plate. She then struck out Perrucci, NJCU's clean-up hitter, who had slugged two grand slams this year prior to the plate appearance. NJCU also stranded a pair of runners in the sixth, trailing 2-0 at the time.
Stockton tallied what proved to be the winning run in the third on an RBI double by DeGaetano and added another run in the fifth inning when a run was pushed in from third on an illegal pitch. Kinter's pinch-hit double extended the lead to 4-0 in the sixth inning. Afflitto singled home a run and senior Brooke Shetter (Atco, NJ/Hammonton) doubled to left center for the sixth run.
NJCU will return to the field on Tuesday, April 27 when it visits Montclair State University in Little Falls, NJ for a 3 p.m. NJAC doubleheader. Stockton hosts Rutgers University-Camden in Pomona, NJ at the same time.
