Senior left fielder and right-handed pitcher TARA PERRUCCI (East Rutherford, NJ/Wallington) started on the mound for NJCU but received a no decision. In 4.1 innings she allowed three runs and six hits with a strikeout and a walk. NJCU rookie righty ASHLEY O'BEIRNE (Wood-Ridge, NJ/Immaculate Conception) threw the final 1.2 innings and despite allowing just one run and two hits, was charged with the loss (8-13).

NJCU, which stranded eight runners in the game, gained a 1-0 lead in the third inning as Ginter led off by doubling to left field before stealing third and scoring on an error. Lang later had a single which would have scored Ginter had she stayed at third. CSI tied it in the bottom of the inning as Strobel singled with two outs, advanced on a wild pitch and scored on an RBI single by Flynn.

NJCU regained the lead, 3-1 in the fifth inning. Freshman second baseman SAMANTHA RUDICK (Closter, NJ/Northern Valley Regional-Demarest) singled. NJCU had a chance to tie it in the top of the seventh when Lang reached on a two out error and junior center fielder STEPHANIE GOMEZ (South Plainfield, NJ/Belleville) also reached on an error, before a fly out ended the game.

CSI gained a 3-0 lead in the first inning. Flynn doubled after a one-out Strobel single and Dillon reached on an error that forced in the first run. Flynn stole home before Dillon scored on an RBI groundout by Graniero. Meanwhile, NJCU tied it at 3-3 in the top of the fifth when it plated two runs. Ginter had a one-out single, stole second, and scored on an RBI double by Satz. Perrucci drove in Satz with a game-tying single up the middle.

But CSI scored eight runs in the sixth inning when 12 batters came to the plate. While the Dolphins had five hits in the inning, they were given extra life by three NJCU errors. Dillon singled with one out, stole second and third, and scored what proved to be the winning run on an error. Later, Flynn, batting for the second time in the inning, had a three-run homer to extend the CSI lead to eight runs, which was the final margin.
