The College of Staten Island only had seven hits but scored six times in the second inning and limited the Gothic Knights to four hits, as CSI outdistanced itself from New Jersey City University, 7-3, in a non-conference game on Wednesday night at the CSI Baseball Complex. NJCU committed three errors and only two of CSI's seven runs were earned.

CSI improved to 12-10 with the win in a makeup of a snowout on March 23 in a game that was originally scheduled as a home game for the Knights. NJCU fell to 4-15 with the loss, losing its third in a row. NJCU had won its last six games against the Dolphins since 2008. With the loss, it marks the first time NJCU has had only four wins after 19 games since opening the 2000 campaign at 3-16.

In defeat, junior catcher FRANCISCO RAMIREZ (Jersey City, NJ/Hudson Catholic) was 1-for-3 with two RBIs, a double, run scored and sacrifice fly. Senior right fielder JORGE GUTIERREZ (Sewaren, NJ/Hudson Catholic) was 1-for-3 with a double and run scored. Junior ROB GONZALEZ (Brick, NJ/Brick Memorial) made his first career start at shortstop and first appearance in the No. 3 spot in the lineup and had one hit, increasing his career total to 147. Senior designated hitter JORDAN TETRICK (Delray Beach, FL/Radnor (Pa.)) was 1-for-3.

For CSI, sophomore center fielder Dan Lynch (Staten Island, NY) was 2-for-4 with two runs in the No. 9 spot in the lineup. Senior designated hitter Pat Gale (Staten Island, NY) was 1-for-3 with two RBIs and junior second baseman Henry Roman (Staten Island, NY) knocked in two runs. Sophomore right fielder Bryan Moreno (Staten Island, NY) walked three times, going 1-for-2 with a run.

Sophomore righty Richard Anderson (Staten Island, NY) earned the complete-game win, improving

to 3-1. In nine innings, he struck out five and walked one, allowing three runs and four hits.

Sophomore righty ALVIN CARRASCO (Jersey City, NJ/St. Mary's (Jersey City)) took the loss (1-2). In 5.0 innings he allowed only two earned runs (seven total) and five hits, walking seven with two strikeouts. Senior righty WESTLEY LOPEZ (West New York, NJ/Memorial) pitched three solid innings in relief, allowing just two hits. He struck out one and walked none.

CSI got all the offense it needed in the second inning. Freshman shortstop Matthew Morales (Staten Island, NY) and senior third baseman Mark Glennerster (Staten Island, NY) singled and junior Sal Todaro (Staten Island, NY) walked for the first of two times in the game to load the bases with no outs. A one-out fielder's choice resulted in a throwing error that brought in two runs for a 2-0 lead before another error reloaded the bases. Moreno had a single for a 3-0 lead. Roman grounded out for an RBI and a 4-0 advantage on what should have been the final out of the inning. Gale added a two-run single through the right side later in the frame for a 6-0 cushion.

NJCU got a run back in the fourth as senior center fielder KEN WITTE (Wantage, NJ/High Point Regional) was hit by a pitch, moved to third on a Gutierrez double and scored on a Ramirez sacrifice fly. In the sixth inning, Gutierrez walked and Gonzalez singled before Ramirez cut the deficit to 6-2 with an RBI groundout.

CSI padded the lead in the bottom of the sixth as Lynch led off with a single, stole second and third, and scored on a sacrifice fly by Roman. Ramirez led off the top of the ninth with a double down the left field line and Tetrick singled to give NJCU runners on the corners. Ramirez came home for the third run on a double play, but NJCU could not generate any more offense.

NJCU will travel to Wayne, NJ on Thursday, April 7 at 3:30 p.m. for a New Jersey Athletic Conference game against William Paterson University on Jeff Albies Field.
