Four players reached double figures for Richard Stockton College as the Ospreys built a 50-21 halftime lead and cruised to a 97-56 win over New Jersey City University in a New Jersey Athletic Conference women's basketball game on Saturday afternoon at the Stockton Sports Center.
 
Stockton (10-4, 3-2 NJAC), set a season high in points while giving head coach Joe Fussner his 299th career win in 20 seasons. NJCU (3-11, 0-5 NJAC) lost its sixth in a row. Stockton won for the 18th straight meeting between the schools
since 1998 and leads the all-time series 39-12.
 
In defeat, rookie guard JADE MEDLEY (Newark, NJ/Hudson Catholic) came off the bench to score a team-high 11 points (4-8 FG) and junior guard GABRIELLE RIVERA (Teaneck, NJ/Saint Joseph of the Palisades) added 10 points and five assists.
 
Junior forward MAXINE KAMINSKI (Kearny, NJ/Kearny) and sophomore forward MARIA SUAREZ (Cliffside Park, NJ/Cliffside Park) each had nine points as starters; Suarez grabbed six rebounds. Sophomore forward ALNISA HERNAIZ (Irvington, NJ/Irvington) claimed seven rebounds.
 
NJCU had a difficult time dealing with Richard Stockton on the defensive end. Senior guard Nancy White (Ocean City, NJ/Ocean City) tallied 15 points (7-11 FG) and five rebounds in 23 minutes as a starter and rookie forward Jill Henderson (Manahawkin, NJ/Southern) chipped in 15 points, eight rebounds and six assists in 26 reserve minutes.
 
Junior guard Sarah Gibbs (Ocean View, NJ/Ocean City) added 11 points, five assists and four steals in 18 reserve minutes for the Ospreys and senior center LaTonya Oliver (West Berlin, NJ/Overbook), a 2010-11 First-Team All-NJAC selection,  finished with 10 points, six rebounds and three blocks in 21 minutes of play.  Senior guard Aliyah Nelson (Pleasantville, NJ/St. Joseph) collected eight points (3-5 FG, 2-2 3FG) and five assists. Freshman guard Alex Nardoza (Woodbridge, NJ/Woodbridge) was one of three other players to tally nine points, and she chipped in seven rebounds and four steals in 23 reserve minutes.
 
NJCU only led in the opening two minutes as Stockton controlled the tempo of the game. Leading 15-9 with 12:34 to play, Stockton unleashed a 24-1 run over a span of 5:48 to vault out to a 39-10 advantage with 6:46 remaining in the first half.
 
Stockton led by as much as 33 in the first half (50-17), shooting 42.1 percent (16-38) and 14-of-18 from the line while limiting NJCU to 7-of-24 shooting (.292).
 
Stockton came out in the second half just as strong as they did in the first half and went on to shoot 52.8% from the field (19-36). NJCU did improve to 40.5 percent in the second half (15-37) but was outscored in the period, 47-35. The Ospreys led by as many as 43 points at three junctures of the final minutes.
 
NJCU committed 26 turnovers versus just 13 for the Ospreys and Stockton produced a 27-8 differential in points off giveaways.
 
It doesn't get any easier for the Knights who host #6 ranked William Paterson University on Wednesday, January 18 at 6 p.m. at the John J. Moore Athletics and Fitness Center.

GAME NOTES:

Starting forward DELIA CHERNEZ (Union City, NJ/Union City) was injured three minutes into the contest and didn't return…The Knights shot 47.6 percent from the line (10-21)…Stockton was credited with an assist on 24 of 35 made baskets…The 24 assists are an opponent season high…The 41-point margin of defeat was NJCU's largest of the season…The 29-point halftime deficit is also a season high and the largest since trailing by 35 against Kean University on December 4, 2010.
