GAME PROGRAM/NOTES
JERSEY CITY, NJ (NJCUGothicKnights.com) | Ramapo College scored four sixth-inning runs aided by two
New Jersey City University errors to overcome what had been a 1-0 pitcher's duel before the Roadrunners held off an NJCU rally in game two as Ramapo swept a New Jersey Athletic Conference doubleheader from the Gothic Knights, 5-1 and 3-2, on Tuesday afternoon at the Thomas M. Gerrity Athletic Complex.
Ramapo (23-5, 8-4) extended its winning streak to six while defeating NJCU (11-21, 2-10 NJAC) for the 20

NJCU outhit Ramapo in game two, 8-3 but the Roadrunners drew 11 walks. NJCU senior shortstop
MEGAN GINTER (Nutley, NJ/Nutley) was a combined 3-for-8 with two runs in the doubleheader. She upped her career hits mark to 155 and runs total to 124.
Ginter reached base for the 13

th and 26

**********************GAME 1: RAMAPO 5, NEW JERSEY CITY 1**********************
In the opener, it was a pitcher's duel between the two squads as Ramapo received a masterful pitching performance from the reigning NJAC Pitcher of the Week, senior right-hander
Lauren Shaw (Wayne, NJ), who improved to 14-3.
Shaw allowed five hits and one earned run with five strikeouts while overcoming a bit of wildness with four walks.
Junior righty
ASHLEY O'BEIRNE (Wood-Ridge, NJ/Immaculate Conception) suffered her 13
th loss of the season (6-13), but deserved a better fate, allowing just two earned runs (four total) against eight hits. She walked three and struck out one before senior righty
JESS MUCERINO (Whippany, NJ/Whippany Park) allowed one run with a walk and strikeout in the seventh inning.
For Ramapo, junior catcher
Lisa Orlando (Bloomfield, NJ) went 2-for-3 with two doubles, one RBI and a run scored. Rookie center fielder
Taylor Boffalo (Paramus, NJ) drove in a run in a 2-for-3 effort. Senior
Danielle Rothenberger (Livingston, NJ), the reigning NJAC Player of the Week, added an RBI in a 1-for-4 effort. Freshman third baseman
Kim LaPenta (Rockaway, NJ) scored twice.
O'Beirne limited Ramapo to just two hits through five innings and NJCU broke through with a run in the fifth. Freshman right fielder
JESSICA CHANDLER (Fountain Hills, AZ/Fountain Hills) led off with a double to left center, moved to third on a single by
Ginter, and
Ginter stole second to give NJCU two runners in scoring position with one out.
Mucerino walked to load the bases.
Satz reached on a fielder's choice when
Chandler was thrown out at the play on a force play. But
Bariso drew a two-out walk to push across NJCU's lone run before a popup ended the inning and stranded the bases full.
But 10 batters came to the plate for Ramapo in the top of the next inning to erase the lead. After a leadoff walk, rookie pinch runner
Jaclyn Lima (Linden, NJ) stole second and scored on a ground-rule double by
Orlando to tie the game. Rookie pinch runner
Melanie Eskin (Bergenfield, NJ) pinch ran for
Orlando and came around to score the eventual winning run on a fielding error on what should have been the second out. A throwing error allowed the third run to score before
Rothenberger had an RBI single to cap the inning.
In the top of the seventh, RCNJ would score an insurance run as
Orlando and
Boffalo had back-to-back doubles to left field, with the latter two-bagger driving in the fifth run.
**********************GAME 2: RAMAPO 3 NEW JERSEY CITY 2 **********************
In game two, Ramapo scored three first-inning runs on three hits and held on late to squeeze out a 3-2 win over NJCU. After winning game one,
Shaw came back in a one-run game in the bottom of the seventh inning and recorded her
second save of the season.
Ginter led off the seventh with a single but was erased on a fielder's choice.
Mucerino reached first base on the force play before
Satz lined into a game-ending double play to shortstop on what appeared to be a hit and run by NJCU.
Sophomore lefty
Nicole Schneider (Hillsdale, NJ) improved to 6-0 on the season as she had one strikeout and allowed eight hits and two earned runs in 6.0 innings.
Mucerino suffered the loss (5-8). She scattered three singles in the game and struck out three but was wild, walking 11 which led to three earned runs.
Boffalo was 2-for-3 with one RBI and
Rothenberger had the other hit, scoring once. Sophomore designated hitter
Caitlin Smith (Hawthorne, NJ), and junior shortstop
Kelsey Higgins (Wall, NJ) each had one RBI.
Ginter was 2-for-4 with one run and
Chandler scored once, batting 1-for-3. NJCU did not have an RBI in the game.
Ramapo took a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning on two hits. The first two batters walked before a single by
Rothenberger loaded the bases with no outs.
Smith walked with the bases full to push one run across. An RBI single by
Boffalo made it 2-0 before the eventual winning run came across when
Higgins grounded out to drive in
Rothenberger.
That was it for the scoring for Ramapo, which stranded 12 runners in the game, including the bases loaded in the third inning and two runners in the sixth and seventh frames.
NJCU would start to fight back in the bottom of the third.
Chandler led off with a single and advanced to third on a one-out groundout. She came around to score when a fly ball by
Mucerino was dropped; the run was earned because
Satz followed with what would have been an RBI single before the inning ended with two NJCU runners on base.
The Gothic Knights would set the stage for a rally in the bottom of the fifth as
Ginter led off with a single, stole second and inevitably scored when
Satz reached on a fielding error, cutting the deficit to 3-2. NJCU could not take any further advantage of two Ramapo errors in the inning and left two runners on base, leading up to the seventh inning rally that was thwarted.
NJCU will travel to Ewing, NJ for a NJAC doubleheader against The College of New Jersey on Saturday, April 21 at 1 p.m.
