 | New Jersey City University loaded the bases in the top of the seventh inning with one out in game two but couldn't get the tying or go-ahead runs home as Ramapo College held on to sweep a New Jersey Athletic Conference doubleheader from the Gothic Knights, 4-3 in game two and 10-0 (5 innings) in the opener on April 23 at the Ramapo Athletic Center.

With the sweep, Ramapo improves to 17-15 and 7-9 in the NJAC while NJCU (13-22, 2-14 NJAC) dropped its third straight game. Ramapo leads the all-time series, 47-14, and has won the last 22 meetings.

In defeat, sophomore left fielder TAYLOR SETAR (Carteret, NJ/Carteret) was 2-for-3 with her second career home run in game two and junior catcher MARISSA BARISO (Hewitt, NJ/West Milford) was 3-for-5 with one RBI for the day. Senior third baseman REBECCA SATZ (Morris Plains, NJ/Morristown) had a double in each game, giving her 49 for her career.

Moreno walked, Higgins and Boffalo singled and a bases-loaded walk to Brown made it 4-0. Kent pushed across the fifth run with a sac fly.

The Roadrunners would score three runs in the second on four hits. A leadoff single by sophomore third baseman Kim LaPenta (Rockaway, NJ/Butler) and a walk to Orlando put two runners on before Moreno singled to make it 6-0. Boffalo followed with a two-run single to center to extend the lead to 8-0. Two NJCU errors contributed to Ramapo scoring twice in the third with a sac fly by Orlando and an RBI single by Higgins knocking in the runs. NJCU had just two hits after the first inning.
*** RAMAPO 4, NEW JERSEY CITY 3 ***
In game two, NJCU scored single runs in the first and second innings for a 2-0 advantage before Ramapo struck twice in the bottom of the second to tie it, and grabbed a 4-2 cushion with single runs in the fifth and sixth frames.

In the top of the seventh, Setar led off, swinging at the first pitch, and launching her second homer of the year over the fence to make it a one-run game. After a strikeout, junior second baseman MAXINE KAMINSKI (Kearny, NJ/Kearny) walked, Satz laced her 49th double to center and Bariso was intentionally walked. But junior shortstop GABRIELLE RIVERA (Teaneck, NJ/Saint Joseph of the Palisades) lined out to second and rookie first baseman FAITH ELY (Vienna, NJ/Hackettstown) struck out on six pitches to end the game.

In defeat, Setar was 2-for-3 with the homer. Perez scored once in a 2-for-4 effort and Bariso was 2-for-3 with one RBI. Freshman designated hitter STEPHANIE MURPHY (Kearny, NJ/Kearny) drove in one run while Rivera scored the other Gothic Knight run.

Rookie third baseman Hannah Mucerino (Whippany, NJ/Whippany Park) scored the other Roadrunner run.

NJCU got on the scoreboard in the first as Perez singled, advanced to third on a pair of ground outs and scored on a Bariso single to left field. In the second, the Gothic Knights built a 2-0 lead as Murphy reached on a fielder's choice that knocked in Rivera, who had been hit by a pitch before moving to third on a sacrifice and wild pitch.

Ramapo responded with two runs on three hits in the bottom of the second to tie the game at 2-2. With two outs Mucerino, the younger sister of former NJCU standout JESS MUCERINO, doubled and scored on an RBI single by Kent. An infield RBI single by Lima made it a 2-2 ball game.

In the fifth, Smith led off with a solo homer—her second of the season—to give Ramapo a 3-2 lead. The Roadrunners added what proved to be the winning run in the sixth. With one out Lima singled, stole second, moved to third on a Moreno single and scored on a sacrifice fly from Smith.
