04-19-14 Kris Fellin 1
(Wood-Ridge, NJ/Queen of Peace)
, who pitched in both games, struck out two and allowed two hits in 1.2 innings.

Jensen took a no-decision for WP, allowing two unearned runs and four hits with four strikeouts and three walks. Junior righty Kevin Cowan (Elizabeth, NJ/Roselle Catholic) was the winner in relief (2-2), throwing three innings of two-hit shutout ball, with two strikeouts and a walk.

Sophomore shortstop K.C. Abel (Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley) was 3-for-4 with two RBIs while senior first baseman Trevor Haughney (Old Bridge, NJ/Old Bridge) was 3-for-4 with a run scored.

In the second inning, NJCU had runners on the corners after back-to-back hits by Giordano and freshman second baseman
04-05-14 Kevin DeMauro 7
(Hoboken, NJ/Saint Peter's Prep),
before a nice sliding play in the hole at first by Haughney ended the threat.

But the Pioneers took advantage of their best chance in the eighth Rowe walked and scored when Haughney ripped a ball to left that one-hopped the fence for an RBI ground-rule double. Martucci moved to the mound in relief and struck out Pevny looking. But an RBI single to center by Abel tied the game, scoring Haughney and a wild pitch that skipped over the backstop put WP in front, 4-3. An RBI single by Abate through the right side was the fourth run of the inning for a 5-3 lead.

After a leadoff single in the eighth by NJCU went for naught, junior first baseman ALEX WEINSTEIN (Colonia, NJ/JFK-Iselin) singled with one out in the ninth, Born was hit by yet another pitch and after a fly out, Martucci, down 0-2, worked out a walk to load the bases before Giordano grounded into a force at short to end the game.

NJCU begins a stretch of eight games in seven days on Monday, April 21 at 8 p.m. when it faces Stevens Institute of Technology in non-conference action in Hoboken, NJ.
