Mount Saint Vincent Strikes Four Times in the Second Half, Blanks #NJCUMSOC, 5-0

BRONX, NY (NJCUGothicKnights.com) | In the first meeting between the schools in seven years, the College of Mount Saint Vincent scored four times in the second half and defeated New Jersey City University in men's soccer for the first time, 5-0, in a non-conference game on October 17 at the Field at Marillac.
 
CMSV (8-5-2) scored in the 7th and 48th minutes, before putting the game away with tallies in the 79th, 83rd and 86th frames. The Dolphins outshot NJCU (1-13, lost 11) by a 21-7 margin. The Gothic Knights were shutout for the eighth time this season.
 
Jair Magallan netted a brace for CMSV, scoring the first two goals for the hosts on his only two shots of the game. He put away the eventual winner just 6:16 into the game before producing again with his fifth goal of the season 2:40 into the second half.
 
Marcial Aguilar made it 3-0 before Rodrigo Silva and Rich Diodati put away two late unassisted tallies.
 
Kevin Jardines, who had a game-high five shots, assisted on the first goal and Andrew Gomez and Jose Mendoza picked up subsequent helpers for CMSV.
 
NJCU freshman goalkeeper John Riggs (Robbinsville, NJ/Robbinsville) made five saves. David Melchor stopped three shots for the shutout.
 
OF NOTE:
  • First meeting since a 9-0 win for NJCU on September 7, 2008 in Ewing, NJ (neutral field).
  • NJCU leads the series, 4-1 with a 31-10 goal differential. CMSV had scored five goals in the first four meetings.
 
WHAT'S NEXT?
NJCU plays its final home game of the season on Wednesday, October 21 when it hosts The College of New Jersey (3 p.m.) at the Robert L. McNulty Memorial Soccer Field. TCNJ won last year's meeting on October 11, 2014 by a 3-0 result. The Lions lead a series that dates to 1959, 49-7-3 and has won the last three meetings.
