NJCU Puts Up Nine Shots, Lubonski Makes 10 Saves in Loss to Stockton

JERSEY CITY, NJ (NJCUGothicKnights.com) | New Jersey City University put up nine shots on one of the top defensive units in Division III—including seven in the second half—and senior goalkeeper Cassie Lubonski (Edison, NJ/Edison) made 10 saves but Stockton University scored twice in each period and claimed a 4-0 New Jersey Athletic Conference women's soccer victory on October 17 at the Robert L. McNulty Memorial Soccer Field.

Stockton (11-2-4, 2-1-4 NJAC, Won 3) ran its unbeaten streak to five games and posted its 12th shutout of the season. Stockton has allowed just seven goals all season and registered its third straight shutout. NJCU (4-9-1 (0-6-0 NJAC) was able to manage the fifth most shots against Stockton this season.

Lubonski produced her seventh career effort of double figure saves, stopping 10 shots—five in each period. It was her third consecutive game with at least 10 saves and the NJAC leader did so for the fifth time in six outings. Stockton rookie goalie Nicole Pallante (Brick, NJ/Brick Township) stopped two shots for the shutout.

Stockton led 2-0 based on goals in the 13th and 22nd minutes before adding additional tallies in the 52nd and 68th frames. Stockton outshot the hosts 12-2 in the opening 45 minutes before a much closer 10-7 margin in the second half.

Junior midfielder Alexa Fama (Linwood, NJ/Mainland) scored twice—her fourth and fifth of the season—notching the second and third markers of the game while junior midfielder Adrianna Boucher (Hamilton, NJ/Steinert) scored the fourth goal (fifth of the season) and assisted on the third score.

Freshman midfielder Abigayle Musto (Wall Township, NJ/Wall) produced the game-winning goal in the 13th minute—her fifth goal of the season—when she knocked the rebound of her own shot out of Lubonski's hands at the top of the 18 after a diving save and booted the unassisted loose ball into the open net beyond the last defender.

Stockton's final three goals were all similar—into the left side netting or far left side from within yards of the right endline.

The Ospreys had eight players with at least two shots in the box score; Fama led the club with four attempts, including three on goal. Sophomore Laura Bustamante (Rockaway, NJ/Butler) and freshmen Odelia Cordova (Cliffside Park, NJ/Cliffside Park) and Katherin Merino (Harrison, NJ/Harrison) each had two shots for NJCU.
