JERSEY CITY, NJ (NJCUGothicKnights.com) | On November 20, a group of coaches, staff and student-athletes from the New Jersey City University athletics department participated in an educational community outreach event at the METS Charter School in the Jersey City Heights neighborhood.

The NJCU contingent educated the high school students on the benefits of a college education and how being a student-athlete has shaped and impacted their lives.

NJCU athletics director Alice De Fazio, camps and community recreation director Danielle Beam and assistant softball coach Veronica Grant spoke to the students during a panel discussion, detailing their personal journeys to college and how being a collegiate student-athlete has impacted their careers. During a question and answer session with the students, the panel also stressed the importance of time management, academics and networking and highlighted the recruiting process.

Meanwhile, head men's and women's volleyball coach Robert Cole and a group of Gothic Knight student-athletes from men's and women's soccer, softball and men's and women's volleyball, interacted with the METS Charter student body through participation in a skill session for volleyball, basketball and soccer. NJCU student-athletes had the opportunity to serve in a mentoring role to the high school students, discussing how collegiate athletics has influenced their lives.
