Merino Produces Two Goals, Two Assists, Two Others Bag Braces in 8-0 Rout of King’s

JERSEY CITY, NJ (NJCUGothicKnights.com) | Freshman forward Katherin Merino (Harrison, NJ/Harrison) scored twice and contributed a pair of assists, and rookie midfielder Daniela Betancourt (West New York, NJ/Memorial) and junior Bryanna Murray-Moncion (Rahway, NJ/Rahway) each produced a brace as the New Jersey City University women's soccer team routed King's College (NY), 8-0, in non-conference women's soccer on September 16 at the Robert L. McNulty Memorial Soccer Field.
 
NJCU (3-3-1) posted its third consecutive shutout and is 3-1-1 in its last five games. The Gothic Knights outshot King's (0-2), 48-8, including 25-3 in the first half when NJCU built a commanding 4-0 lead at the half.
 
Merino unleashed 14 shots—including eight on goal—while netting her fourth and fifth goals and first two collegiate assists. Betancourt and Murray-Moncion, who was playing in just her third game with the team, both scored for the first time.  
 
Sophomore midfielder Laura Bustamante (Rockaway, NJ/Butler) added her second goal of the season while sophomore midfielder Alicia Umanzor (Morristown, NJ/Morristown) collected her first goal.
 
Junior midfielder Kaydee Murphy (Bayonne, NJ/Holy Family Academy) produced a pair of assists while freshman defender Odelia Cordova (Cliffside Park, NJ/Cliffside Park) chipped in one assist.

Senior goalkeeper Cassie Lubonski (Edison, NJ/Edison) set aside four shots for her third career shutout and extended her shutout streak to 327:43. Victoria McAlister made 19 saves for King's under consistent pressure.
