Lubonski Makes 15 Saves in Loss to FDU-Florham

MADISON, NJ (NJCUGothicKnights.com) | Senior goalkeeper Cassie Lubonski (Edison, NJ/Edison) made a career-high 15 saves, including nine in the second half, but Fairleigh Dickinson University-Florham controlled possession and defeated the New Jersey City University women's soccer team, 4-0, in non-conference action on September 2.
 
FDU (2-0) outshot NJCU (0-2), 34-1, including 21-0 in the second half as the Gothic Knights dropped the first two games of the season by the same 4-0 score. Four different players scored for FDU, facing the Knights for the first time in six seasons.
 
The Devils led 2-0 at the break behind unassisted goals from Kelly Roche and Kristen Fila in the 26th and 33rd minutes.
 
In the second half, Gabby Diaco added an assist from Missy Quinn in the 68th frame before Kate MacMillian tallied another unassisted goal in the 74th.
 
Annie George played the first 73:58 in net, making one save on freshman center mid Lexi Capote (Leonia, NJ/Leonia). Daija Rubino finished out the final 16:02 of the shutout. FDU held a 5-0 margin in corner kicks and was whistled for offsides eight times.
 
OF NOTE:
  • FDU leads the all-time series, 6-1.
  • It was the first meeting since September 5, 2010.
  • NJCU was without junior center back Jubeth Buitrago (Secaucus, NJ/Secaucus) who sat out with an injury.
  • FDU has won each of its first two games of the season by 4-0 results.

NJCU will play in the Mount Saint Vincent 4Way Classic on September 5 and 6 in Riverdale, NY. NJCU meets host Mount Saint Vincent on September 5 at 12 p.m., before facing either Lehman College or NAIA school SUNY Delhi on day two. NJCU last played MSV on September 7, 2010—a 9-2 win for the Knights—and leads the all-time series, 7-1 with a 46-7 goal differential.
