TCNJ Pulls Away from Men’s Soccer in Second Half

EWING, N.J. (NJCUGothicKnights.com) | The College of New Jersey led 2-0 at halftime before the New Jersey City University men's soccer team fell apart defensively in the second half as the Lions won the New Jersey Athletic Conference matchup on September 24, 7-0, at the TCNJ Soccer Complex.

The Lions (5-3-1, 2-0-0 NJAC) scored five times in the second half, outshooting NJCU 20-1 in the period and 36-7 in the game. NJCU (8-2-1, 0-2-0 NJAC) lost for only the second time this year—both to the only two unbeaten teams in the NJAC conference standings.

Peter Dresch scored a natural hat trick for TCNJ, scoring his first three goals of the season in the 14th, 17th and 54th minutes. Both first half goals were separated by a span of 3:09.

Thomas Hogue scored twice to cap the scoring in the 77th and 85th minutes—both assisted by Michael Kassak. Prior to that, Joerg Jauk and Aaron Conyer scored unassisted tallies in the 54th and 62nd minutes.

NJCU was shutout for the first time this season after scoring 11 goals in its previous two games. Dan Walsh played the first 73:21 for TCNJ, making two saves before Alan Miller finished the final 16:39.

Freshman goalkeeper Adam Cassidy (Jersey City, N.J./County Prep) made a career-high 11 saves for NJCU against six goals in the first 79:01 before freshman Steven Pires (Hillside, N.J./Hillside) allowed one goal in 10:59 of reserve time.
