#NJCUWBB Falls at William Paterson

WAYNE, N.J. (NJCUGothicKnights.com) | William Paterson University held a 53-2 halftime advantage before defeating the New Jersey City University women's basketball team, 96-14, on January 24 inside the William Paterson Rec Center.
 
The Pioneers (11-8, 8-4 NJAC) shot 57.5 percent (42-73) on the night as they outrebounded the Gothic Knights (0-15, 0-12 NJAC), 52-19 and held a 64-0 points in the paint advantage. NJCU shot 5-of-43 overall.
 
In defeat, junior point guard Jesenia Montalvo (Hillside, NJ/Bayonne) scored seven points and grabbed five boards for NJCU.
 
Five Pioneers scored in double digits as 11 different players registered six or more points. In 21 minutes of work, freshman guard Brianna Brooks (Saddle Brook, N.J.) narrowly missed a double-double with 10 points (5-7 FG) and nine rebounds (seven defensive) while also forcing four steals. Freshman guard Danica DeFrank (Fairfield, N.J.) led all scorers with 13 points on 5-of-9 shooting in 24 minutes, while junior guard Julia Rovito chipped in 12 points (6-7 FG), five steals and four rebounds and four assists in 15 minutes of work.
 
Freshman forward Sierra Strong (Howell, N.J) contributed 11 points on 5-of-9 shooting and secured five caroms. Junior guard Ashley Castillo (Ridgefield Park, N.J.) made nine of her 10 points from beyond the arc while adding four assists in 12 minutes on the court.

NJCU hosts TCNJ on Saturday, January 27 inside the John J. Moore Athletics and Fitness Center ('Coach Charlie Brown Court'). It will be the second time in less than a week that both teams face off after the Lions defeated the Gothic Knights on Monday in Ewing, N.J. TCNJ leads the all-time series, 58-3 and has won the last 18 meetings between the two NJAC sides.
