Diana Trochimowicz and the Gothic Knights take the court against
William Paterson on October 2 at 7 p.m.
The Gothic Knights will be heading into the contest riding a two-match winning streak, as NJCU swept a non-conference tri-match in Staten Island on Saturday. NJCU swept Maritime College in the morning (25-11, 25-17, 25-15) before wearing down the hosts, College of Staten Island is four sets in the afternoon (25-20, 20-25, 25-21, 25-10). Senior setter Shaylah Ware (Newark, NJ/Science Park) had a particularly strong day, with 58 assists, 29 digs, and 14 aces over the seven sets combined.

The Pioneers are riding a hot streak of their own, having won their past three matches—all of which went to five sets—but really their entire season has been one long hot streak. They are 12-1 on the year, with their only loss coming to defending NJAC champion Kean University (12-7, 4-0 NJAC).

Kean is a shared opponent for these two sides, with both NJUC and WPU having been swept at the hands of the Cougars. The Knights picked up 48 points in those three sets, while the Pioneers picked up 64. The Cougars are the lone common opponent for these two sides so far in 2018.

Last Meeting: When the two sides met last year (September 26, 2017), the Pioneers were victorious, 3-0 (25-12, 25-21, 25-14). It was an interesting match in that the Knights tallied only one fewer kill than the Pioneers, but they more than double the attach errors of WPU, thus leading to the defeat. They were led on the day by Amber O'Donnell's (East Newark, NJ/Harrison) 12 kills. | 2017 Box Score

Pioneer Quick Hits:

  • Senior setter Kendall Caruso (Secaucus, N.J.) enters the match needing 12 assists to break the William Paterson career record of 2.643. Deni Sobieck (2000-03) is the current record holder.
