BROOKLYN, N.Y. (NJCUGothicKnights.com) | Senior forward
Theo Sanoh (Jersey City, NJ/Dickinson) produced his third multiple-goal game of the season, generating a brace with tallies in the 20th and 23rd minutes to pace the
New Jersey City University men's soccer team to a 3-0 non-conference road win on September 17 under the lights at Aviator Sports Field.
Â
Sanoh scored his sixth and seventh goals of the season to lift NJCU to a 4-2-0 record as the Gothic Knights outshot the Cougars (0-4-0), 15-4. The Knights recorded their third shutout of the season.
Sanoh had eight of NJCU's 15 shots, putting half on target.
Â
Senior back
Mike Almeida (Kearny, NJ/Kearny), part of the back line that allowed just three shots on goal, got into the scoring column when he buried a penalty kick in the 86th minute for his second tally of the season.
Almeida, the team captain, was the lone Gothic Knight to play the entire 90 minutes as 24 men saw the field for the Knights.
Â
NJCU got the only goal it needed when freshman midfielder
Samuel Ansah (East Orange, NJ/Newark Tech) crossed a ball from the right side to
Sanoh who headed home the opportunity. Less than three minutes later, junior
Maykol Abreu (Elizabeth, NJ/Elizabeth) sent a long pass to
Sanoh at the top of the box, where he beat a defender and finished low.
Â
NJCU did not allow a shot in the first half in front of sophomore starting keeper
Eric Lopes Silva (Newark, NJ/Newark East Side) (0 saves). Sophomore
Aldahir Cazun (Jersey City, NJ/Dickinson) played the final 45 minutes, stopping three shots to preserve the shutout. MEC keeper
Carl Obesissant stopped five shots.
