WAYNE, N.J. (NJCUGothicKnights.com) | William Paterson University scored four goals in the first 25 minutes of the opening half and defeated the
New Jersey City University women's soccer team, 6-0, in a New Jersey Athletic Conference game on September 22 at Pioneer Soccer Park.

WP (3-5-0, 1-1-0 NJAC) outshot the Gothic Knights (4-4-0, 0-2-0 NJAC) by a 20-4 margin and saw two players account for five of the six goals.

Two-time All-NJAC forward
Marisa Adelman (Branchburg, N.J.), a junior who in 2016 was the league's co-Rookie of the Year with NJCU center midfielder
Mallensy Vargas (North Bergen, NJ/Memorial), did the most damage, netting a hat trick with her sixth, seventh and eighth goals of the season, including the first two of the game in the seventh and 14th minutes. She completed her day with the sixth goal in the 78th minute.
Adelman, who had a game-high five shots—all on net—added an assist on the fifth goal, to finish with seven points for the Pioneers. Â

Freshman midfielder
Samantha Persaud (North Brunswick, N.J.) added a brace, the first two goals of her collegiate career, when she netted shots in the 25th and 70th minutes to make it 4-0 at the break and 5-0 midway through the second half.

Junior midfielder
Lorraine Moffitt (Paramus, N.J.) was the lone other scorer, making it 3-0 on a 20th minute penalty kick. It was her first of the year.

Sophomore mid
Danielle Dachowski (Roxbury, N.J.), junior mid
Morgan Bringoli (Barnegat, N.J.) and freshman mid
Michaela Stanton (Tinton Falls, N.J.) each produced assists for WP;
Dachowski set up the eventual game-winner.

Vargas, who entered the game with 22 points (nine goals, four assists) ranked No. 11 in NCAA Division III in shots per game (7.14) and 22nd in shots on goal per game (3.43), was held without a shot for only the fourth time in 38 career outings.

Sophomore goalkeeper
Erica Hickey (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) made three saves to preserve her third shutout of the season. NJCU freshman keeper
Cidney Lee-Sam (Old Bridge, NJ/Old Bridge) made seven saves on a busy day in net.
