Â
The game, postponed yesterday and moved from Jersey City to Union due to flooding at the Thomas M. Gerrity Athletic Complex, saw Kean (3-3-3, 1-1-1 NJAC) control much of the possession and outshot NJCU (4-5-0, 0-3-0 NJAC) by a 27-6 margin, including 15-1 in the first half.
Â
NJCU freshman keeper
Cidney Lee-Sam (Old Bridge, NJ/Old Bridge) was peppered with shots but held her own all night and kept the Gothic Knights in the game with nine saves.
Â
Senior midfielder
Cori Dengel (Manahawkin, N.J.) was involved in both scores, putting away her third goal of the season at 27:23 of the half, then assisted on the second goal at 37:01 when freshman mid
Emily Bretschneider (Moorestown, N.J.) struck for the first time as a collegian.
Â
Senior mid
Carley Garlasco (Paramus, N.J.) and junior forward
Lexy Monroy (New Milford, N.J.) contributed to the winning goal, as a feed up the middle and a one-touch led to the finish from the right on the double-assisted play.
Bretschneider's goal came when
Dengel crossed a ball from the defensive midfield before finishing from the far right.
Â
Junior goalkeeper
Casey McDonnell (Manahawkin, N.J.) backed up a Kean defense that registered its fourth shutout of the season by stopping three shots to preserve the clean sheet.
