CAMDEN, N.J. (NJCUGothicKnights.com) | In a New Jersey Athletic Conference game moved from Jersey City to Camden, N.J. yesterday, Rutgers University-Camden scored once in each half and registered its third consecutive shutout, blanking the
New Jersey City University men's soccer team (5-5-0, 0-4-0 NJAC), 2-0, on September 29 at Rutgers-Camden Community Park.
Â
With flooding persisting on NJCU's grass field at the Thomas M. Gerrity Athletic Complex, the tilt moved to Camden's turf field and the home team took advantage. The Scarlet Raptors (7-3-1, 2-1-0 NJAC) struck late in the 22nd minute, added another in the 56th minute, and the defense did the rest as Rutgers-Camden produced its fourth shutout of the season.
Â
It was the fourth consecutive win for the Raptors, which ran their consecutive scoreless minutes string to 295:57. NJCU fell for the third straight outing.
Â
The Raptors outshot NJCU 18-8, putting 12 of those attempts on net. Sophomore goalkeeper
Aldahir Cazun (Jersey City, NJ/Dickinson), starting for the second time this year, stopped eight shots. NJCU's defense also was credited with two team saves. Senior keeper
James Brett (Palmyra, N.J.) made four saves for the hosts.
Â
For the hosts, freshman midfielder
Sinan Tuzcu (Glassboro, N.J.) scored his second goal of the season at 21:58 of the first half as junior
Chris Taraska (Woodbridge, N.J.) slipped a pass towards the right post, setting up
Tuzcu to beat a defender for the winning shot.
Â
Junior midfielder
Patrick Grudnik (South Brunswick, N.J.) added the insurance at 55:32 of the second half, hitting on a high shot that was set up by sophomore forward
Skylar Diggs (Delran, N.J.)'s pass to the left post.
Â
RUC had nine of the 11 corner kick attempts in the contest. The first half saw just nine shots between the two sides (6-3 RUC) before Camden outshot NJCU, 12-5, in the final 45 minutes.
Grudnik had a game-high four shots (three on goal).
Â
Freshman mid
Orlando Alcantara, freshman forward
Edric De Paula (Newark, NJ/Newark Tech) and sophomore center mid
Joe Burgos (Hackensack, NJ/St. Benedict's Prep) each had two shots for NJCU.
