EWING, N.J. (NJCUGothicKnights.com) | The Gothic Knights ran into the buzzsaw that is the consensus top-five Lions of The College of New Jersey on October 19, with a 3-0 halftime deficit ballooning into an eventual 13-0 victory for TCNJ.
The Lions (12-1, 6-0 NJAC) got goals from 11 different players, including seven substitutes as they outshot the Knights 44-1 on the day.
Cidney Lee-Sam (Old Bridge, NJ/Old Bridge) was in goal the entire match for NJCU (7-7-1, 0-5-1 NJAC), as she reached double-digit saves once again in a conference match, facing a barrage of shots and attacks all day en route to 14 saves, a career-high. She has now made double-digit saves in three of the Knights' last four NJAC matches. It was her fifth career double-digit save effort.
The pair of two-goal scorers with TCNJ were
Julianna Bertolino (Medford, N.J.) as a starter, and
Gabriella Barquim (Florham Park, N.J.) off the bench.
Gianna Minerva (Bridgewater, N.J.) also contributed a pair of assists from the bench.
For NJCU, it was
Mallensy Vargas (North Bergen, NJ/Memorial) who got their lone shot on goal of the match, as she remains in the top five in the country for both goals and points.
OF NOTE:
- Series: 24th meeting. TCNJ leads, 24-0.
- TCNJ is ranked No. 3 nationally by D3soccer.com and No. 5 by the United Soccer Coaches. The Lions are No. 1 in the NCAA Division III South Atlantic Region.
- TCNJ has outscored opponents 57-4 this year.
- TCNJ recorded its 10th shutout of the season and third in a row.

- NJCU plays their final road conference match of the year, traveling to Montclair, N,J. to take on the Montclair State University Red Hawks (10-4-2, 5-0-1 NJAC) for another challenging NJAC match-up on Tuesday, October 22. Play will get underway at 7:00 p.m. It is a makeup of a rainout on October 16.
