GALLOWAY, N.J. (NJCUGothicKnights.com) | Stockton University used a strong first half, including three goals in the first seven minutes, to power past the
New Jersey City University on October 26 in New Jersey Athletic Conference action at G. Larry James Stadium. Stockton surged out to a 4-0 lead in the first half and prevailed, 4-1.
The Ospreys (10-4-3, 3-3-2 NJAC) jumped ahead of the Gothic Knights (11-8-0, 0-8-0 NJAC) in just the third minute, as junior forward
Dante Montesinos (West Long Branch, N.J.) put one in the bottom left corner, assisted by senior midfielder
Christian Bik (Vineland, N.J.).
By the seventh minute, Stockton had tripled its lead, a lead they would not relinquish the rest of the game. Goals came from senior backs
Ryan Cheslock (Toms River, N.J.) and
Larry Abanilla (Union, N.J.) in a span of exactly two minutes in the late fifth and seventh minutes.
In the 26th minute, senior forward
Andrew Griggs (Galloway, N.J.) scored the final goal of the game for Stockton, extending the lead to 4-0.
In the most extended time of his career,
Danny Montehermoso (Union City, NJ/Union City)
shutout Stockton for 61 minutes.
The Knights pulled one back in the second half, as sophomore forward
Edric De Paula (Blairstown, NJ/Newark Tech) scored his eighth goal of the season—yet another of his ESPN Top-10 caliber highlight-reel trademark bicycle kicks. Senior back
Maykol Abreu's throw in from the right sideline was flicked by junior back
Nelson Segovia (North Bergen, NJ/North Bergen) into the middle of the box where
De Paula pulled off his magic in the 55th minute. Both
Abreu and
Segovia picked up their first assists of the season. Neither team scoring again.
Junior goalkeeper
Aldahir Cazun (Jersey City, NJ/Dickinson) started the game and made four saves for the Knights. Senior
Danny Montehermoso (Union City, NJ/Union City) came on in the 29th minute and made two saves, allowing no goals for the final 61:01—the most extended playing time of his career. Stockton utilized four goalkeepers in the win.
