Leo Ferrari (Kearny, NJ/Kearny) had a career-high 14 kills but the City College of New York posted a team hitting percentage of .348 and swept a non-conference match from
New Jersey City University, 3-0 (25-22, 25-20, 25-13) on March 5 at Nat Holman Gymnasium

NJCU (7-8) committed 27 attack errors in 92 attempts and despite a 34-32 margin in kills in the match, committed 19 more errors than the Beavers (8-4). CCNY had 32 kills and only eight errors in 69 swings.

CCNY was led by 6-foot-6 freshman right side
Xhulio Myftari (Durrex, Albania), who did more than half of the damage for CCNY with 19 kills and a .471 attack percentage in 34 swings (three errors). He added seven digs and three blocks (two solo). Sophomore setter
Hei Chun Chan (Flushing, N.Y.) gave out 24 assists.

Ferrari, the four-time New Jersey Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week, hit .250 with 14 kills in 28 attempts (seven errors), adding two aces.

Aaron Mantilla (Kearny, NJ/Kearny) had 15 assists and junior setter
Jimmy Vega (Harrison, NJ/Harrison) handed out 13 helpers. Freshman middle blocker
Jeffry Rodriguez (Elizabeth, NJ/John E. Dwyer Technology AcademyElizabeth, N.J. (John E. Dwyer Technology Academy) finished with seven kills and two solo blocks.

CCNY had a 67 percent sideout rate for the match (38-56). There were nine ties in the opening set, including 20-20, before CCNY scored the next three points—all on NJCU errors. A kill by
Ferrari and a solo stuff by
Rodriguez cut it to 23-22, before CCNY scored the next two points, winning on one of 12 attack errors in the set.

CCNY, which committed just three attack errors in game one, two in set two and three in the final set, hit .524 in game two to keep NJCU at arm's length after taking the leading midway through the period. The Beavers hit .429 in the third set, scoring 11 of 13 points midway through the game to claim an 18-10 lead, then reeled off the final six points of the set to clinch the win.

- Series: 34th meeting. NJCU leads the all-time series, 27-7, and has still won 17 of the last 19 meetings.
- Leo Ferrari (Kearny, NJ/Kearny)'s previous career high for kills was nine on two occasions.
