MAHWAH, N.J. – The New Jersey City University women's soccer team traveled to play Ramapo College on Saturday afternoon, Oct. 23, in New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) action. Multiple Gothic Knights were able to find shot opportunities, unfortunately none successful, leaving the Green & Gold scoreless in the 5-0 defeat.
Jersey City (3-4-3, 0-7-1 NJAC) battled the Roadrunners (1-11-1, 1-6-1 NJAC), but fell short when it came to finishing the deal, resulting the loss. Ramapo held possession for the majority of the first 20 minutes, kicking off the action with two corner kicks and shots on goal, which were saved by Gothic Knight sophomore goalkeeper
Angie Paz (Vernon, N.J./Vernon Township). The Roadrunners finished with their first goal of the game, putting them in an early lead. Sophomore
Krysti Alejandro (Kearny, N.J./Kearny) took the first shot on goal for NJCU but was saved by Ramapo's goalkeeper. Alejandro immediately followed up with another shot that missed wide.
The Roadrunners scored their second goal of the game in the 28th minute. Alejandro found her second shot goal in the 37th minute but was saved yet again. NJCU closed out the first half with a corner kick and a header shot on goal by freshman
Rachel Amaro (Newark, N.J./Newark East Side).
Ramapo started the second half quick, scoring their third goal within the first minute. Jersey City junior captain
Arame Diouf (Weehawken, N.J./Memorial) responded with a shot on goal, resulting in a save. In the 58th minute, Ramapo had back-to-back shots on goal; the first was saved by Paz, one of her five saves of the game, but the second successfully made its way into the goal. The Roadrunners now led NJCU 4-0. Senior goalkeeper
Cidney Lee-Sam (Old Bridge, N.J./Old Bridge) was substituted into the game following the goal.
The following 10 minutes consisted of multiple shots on goal from NJCU, each from senior captain
Victoria Gil (South River, N.J./South River) and sophomores
Kim Brites (Carteret, N.J./Carteret) and
Shea Ramirez (Bogota, N.J./Immaculate Conception), who had two shots on goal and an additional shot attempt. Lee-Sam made her first save of the game in the 76th minute, however seconds later the Roadrunners managed to score their fifth and final goal. The Gothic Knights closed out play with another shot on goal from Ramirez, which was saved again by the Roadrunners' goalkeeper.
