All-Around Effort Leads Women's Volleyball to 3-0 Home Win over Rosemont

JERSEY CITY, N.J. — The New Jersey City University women's volleyball squad used an overall team effort to pick up its 11th victory of the season on Friday night, Oct. 8, as the Gothic Knights defeated the Ravens of Rosemont College in three sets (25-20, 25-13, 25-21) in a non-conference clash at the John J. Moore Athletics and Fitness Center (JMAC).

A total of 13 players saw the court for NJCU (11-4) and all but one of them registered a point in the victory over Rosemont (4-11). Jersey City had eight players notch at least two kills on the night and seven student-athletes record multiple digs.

Individually, junior right-side hitter Paola Toledo (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic/Colegio Catolico San Rafael) led NJCU in kills (6) with just one error on 10 swings (.500 hitting percentage). Then, after playing mostly as a serving and defensive substitution in the first and second sets, junior Katrina Nguyendon (Union, N.J./Union) led the Gothic Knights with a season-high 11 assists, with eight coming in the third and final set. She also had five digs, a kill and an ace.

Senior middle blocker Leah Seickendick (Hoboken, N.J./Hudson Catholic) continued her strong season with another game-high block total, this time collecting five all together, including a pair of solo stuffs. Senior Krista Bartko (Edison, N.J./Edison), who was a defensive specialist in the first set, served as the primary libero and sets number two and three and finished with a team-high nine digs.

What's Next:
The Gothic Knights return to action on Tuesday night, Oct. 12, at 7:00 p.m. at the JMAC when Rowan University comes to Jersey City for New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) competition.
