CAMDEN, N.J. — The New Jersey City University women's soccer team suffered a 2-0 loss on the road tonight, Wednesday, March 17, against Rutgers-Camden in New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) action. Reigning NJAC Defensive Player of the Week, junior goalkeeper
Cidney Lee-Sam (Old Bridge, N.J./Old Bridge) made five saves on seven attempts in the loss as the Gothic Knights were held scoreless.
NJCU (0-2, 0-2 NJAC) fell behind early as the Scarlet Raptors (2-0, 2-0 NJAC) were the initial aggressors. The home team was called offsides twice trying to push the pressure before missing a shot high in the eighth minute. Rutgers-Camden scored the game's first goal in the ninth after a chip made its way into the box for a tap-in tally to make it 1-0.
Over the remainder of the first half, Lee recorded all five of her saves on the day to keep it a one-goal game before sophomore captain
Arame Diouf (Weehawken, N.J./Memorial) notched the Gothic Knights' first on-target attempt of the night, which was turned aside by the Rutgers-Camden keeper with 00:44 remaining until the break.
Neither side was able to get anything going early in the second, before a series of altercations in the 64th minute led to four cards, a red and a yellow on each team due to a scuffle between the squads. From that point on, each team played 10 a side until the end of the match. Just about five minutes later, the Scarlet Raptors were awarded a corner kick and they were able to convert with traffic in front to make it 2-0 in the 70th. From that point forward there were no more shots from either team as Rutgers-Camden closed out the 2-0 contest.
