JERSEY CITY, N.J. — On a beautiful afternoon at the Thomas M. Gerrity Athletic Complex on the Robert L. McNulty Memorial Soccer Field, the New Jersey City University women's soccer team took on New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) foe Ramapo College today, Saturday, March 20. The Gothic Knights fell behind early 1-0, tied it up late against the Roadrunners in the 67th minute, but were unable to hold on and fell 2-1 following the game-winning goal by Ramapo in the 77th.
NJCU (0-3, 0-3 NJAC) possessed the ball for an equal amount of time throughout the afternoon against Ramapo (1-1-1, 1-1-1 NJAC), but was unfortunately unable to get much action on net. The first goal of the game in the 37th minute off a corner attempt for the Roadrunners was converted to make it 1-0. The score remained that way through the end of the half.
However, the Gothic Knights were able to get on the board with just over 13 minutes remaining in regulation. Freshman
Kim Brites (Carteret, N.J./Carteret) saw an opening in the box, but was taken down by a Ramapo defender to earn a penalty. The rookie converted to the left to knot the game up with her team-leading second goal of the season. Unfortunately, the Roadrunners were able to take the lead late and secure the win.
Two keepers saw time in net for NJCU. Junior
Cidney Lee-Sam (Old Bridge, N.J./Old Bridge) got ther start and stopped a pair in the first half before leaving due to injury. Freshman
Marissa Lotierzo (Maple Shade, N.J./Maple Shade) made her collegiate debut in the second half and made three saves.
