JERSEY CITY, N.J. – The New Jersey City University women's soccer team has won its second consecutive game today, Wednesday, Sept. 22. The Gothic Knights toppled Brooklyn College 5-0 in a non-conference battle at the Thomas M. Gerrity Athletic Complex on Robert L. McNulty Memorial Field thanks to a pair of scores from sophomore forward
Kim Brites (Carteret, N.J./Carteret) and junior back
Arame Diouf (Weehawken, N.J./Memorial).
NJCU (2-3-2) entered the day down several players, so some Gothic Knights played some or all of the match out of position, which included the second half of play for Diouf as the center back played forward – channeling the days of her rookie season – en route to her second and third tallies of the season. On the other hand, Brites – fresh off a hat trick on Monday, Sept. 20 – was right at home in her normal striker position and made quick work of the Bulldogs' (0-5) backline.
Things got started early in the 12th minute when Brites forced a turnover in NJCU's offensive zone just outside the top of the box and was able to beat the keeper to make it 1-0. Despite multiple chances – including five on-target attempts in the first six minutes – the Gothic Knights managed just the one goal lead after the first half of play thanks to a strong performance in goal by the Brooklyn keeper, who finished with 15 saves on 20 NJCU shots on goal on the afternoon.
However, in the 54th minute, Brites broke open the flood gates. A long Knights' cross on the far side of the offensive zone was intercepted by the Bulldogs, but before they could clear, Brites picked their pocket and quickly snuck a shot in to the left of the netminder to make it 2-0. Then in the 58th, officially in an attacking position, Diouf received a well-placed cross from sophomore forward
Shea Ramirez (Bogota, N.J./Immaculate Conception) – who played midfielder for the day – and tapped it in for the game's third goal.
The 61st minute started with a wide open two-on-one opportunity for Brites and Diouf. The former passed it off to the latter and Diouf rolled another in for her second of the day to make it 4-0. Last but not least, Brooklyn was called for a hand ball in the box in the 76th minute, which led to a penalty try for freshman midfielder
Emily Chacon (Parsippany, N.J./Parsippany). The rookie easily beat the netminder for her first-career goal in her collegiate debut.
Highlights:
- NJCU outshot Brooklyn 46-4 overall, including 20-2 in on-target attempts.
- The Gothic Knights dominated the corner opportunities and finished the day with the 11-2 advantage.
- Brites by far led all players in total shots (16) and also had a game-high six on-goal attempts.

- Senior

Sabrina Duarte (Union, N.J./Benedictine Academy), made her collegiate debut and saw just over 13 minutes of action in goal.
