JERSEY CITY, N.J. – The New Jersey City University women's soccer team competed in its second game of the year today, Monday, September 6, and for the second time this season, the Gothic Knights went the full 110 minutes. NJCU ended the game in a 0-0 tie with Cedar Crest College on home turf at the Robert L. McNulty Memorial Field.
Numerous shots, corner kicks and fouls were delivered during today's game – but no goals for either team. Jersey City (0-0-2) took a total of 19 shots with Cedar Crest (1-0-1) following at 11. NJCU sophomore goalkeeper Marissa Lotierzo (Maple Shade, N.J./Maple Shade) had four saves, including one to finish out the first half.
NJCU juniors Michelle Taras (Newark, N.J./Newark East Side) and Arame Diouf (Weehawken, N.J./Memorial) and sophomores Shea Ramirez (Bogota, N.J./Immaculate Conception) and Kim Brites (Carteret, N.J./Carteret) all landed shots on goal during the first half. A total of six corner kicks were taken by the Knights – three were back-to-back but still unsuccessful.
The Falcons' Taylor Wolf was given a yellow card at 74:48. Seconds later, NJCU earned the best offensive opportunity of the day. Taras sent a hard shot on net that was stopped by the Cedar Crest goalkeeper but the save forced her out of position. Senior Tiana Ulloa (East Brunswick, N.J./East Brunswick) immediately followed on the rebound, but a Falcons' back was there to make a team save and keep it scoreless. The following rebound was sent wide and out of play by senior Cystal Tepale to end the sequence.
Once the second half ended with a 0-0 scoreboard, the teams moved to the first overtime period. The Gothic Knights' Diouf landed the only shot during the 10 extra minutes. Fouls were given to both teams, but still no goals.
The second overtime period started with a NJCU yellow card to Ramirez. Sophomore Krysti Alejandro (Kearny, N.J./Kearny) and Ulloa each took a shot on goal, but neither finished the game for the Knights.
