JERSEY CITY, N.J. — The New Jersey City University men's tennis team has enjoyed an extremely successful Fall portion of their 2022-23 schedule, and today, Saturday, Oct. 30, the Gothic Knights brought this semester's sect of their season to a close. NJCU topped Yeshiva University by a sweeping score of 9-0 at the Lincoln Park Tennis Courts.
Doubles:
The Green and Gold (3-0) got things started in doubles play, dropping a combined three total games over the three matches against the Maccabees (0-2). Senior
Ryan Weiss (Mullica Hill, N.J./Clearview Regional) and junior
Jordi Julia (Barcelona, Spain/IES Sant Quirze del Valles) paired up at second doubles to win the first match of the day, 8-1, followed by a carbon copy victory at #1 by juniors
Nico Teynie (Rouen, France/Lycée Val de Seine) and
Alejandro Ley (Las Palmas, Spain/I.E.S. Politécnico). Sophomore
Joaquin Pluis (Buenos Aires, Argentina/Santa Felicitas) and freshman
Pedro Caro-Accino Roca (Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Spain/British School of Gran Canaria) them teamed up at third doubles for another 8-1 win.
Singles:
Already leading 3-0 after doubles play, singles play continued in the same breadth as NJCU dropped just three total games over the six matches (12 sets) played. Ley notched the first victory at #2 by a scoreless 6-0, 6-0 sweep, followed quickly by Weiss with another scoreless sweep at third singles. Pluis was 6-0, 6-0, as well, at #5, while Caro won at sixth singles, 6-0, 6-1. Teynie continued his stellar campaign with a scoreless sweep at first singles and then Julia finished the last match of the day at #4 with a 6-0, 6-2 victory.
Exhibitions:
Five exhibition matches took place today, as well, with the Gothic Knights taking the all. In doubles play, juniors
Gerard Loras (Tortosa, Spain/Col·legi Diocesà Sagrada Família) and
Francisco Rodas (Bayonne, N.J./Bayonne) teamed up for the 6-4 win. Each then placed two one-set singles matches against Yeshiva. Loreas won both of his, taking the first, 6-2, and the second, 7-6. Rodas was similar with his results, winning 6-3 and 7-6.

Jersey City's Fall season comes to close. The Gothic Knights will return to the court in the Spring semester as the begin their quest to return to the top of the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) East Division standings. NJCU won the 2020-21 title and then finished as the runner-up in 2021-22.
