JERSEY CITY, N.J. — The New Jersey City University women's volleyball team, seeded fourth in the 2022 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Women's Volleyball Tournament, saw its season come to a close on Sunday morning, Nov. 13, in the semifinal round against New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) rival, top-seeded Kean University. The Gothic Knights, who are hosting the tournament all weekend long, fell in three sets to the Cougars (25-14, 25-16, 25-18).
NJCU (17-12) were led by senior right-side hitter
Paola Toledo (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic/Colegio Catolico San Rafael), who tied the match high in kills (10) and blocks (3) in the loss to the Cougars (20-13). Senior libero Katrinia Nguyuendon had another double-digit dig performance, leading the Gothic Knights with a team-best 12, while junior setter
Sydney Lore (Marlton, N.J./Cherokee) dished out 22 assists to go with six digs and a match-best three aces.
Sophomore outside hitter
Brenda Gonzalez (Union City, N.J./Dickinson) had seven kills, while junior middle blocker
Ashley Jimenez (West New York, N.J./Memorial) had three kills and a season-high-tying three blocks to go with a pair of aces. Nguyendon also chipped in to aces, while senior defensive specialist
Krista Bartko (Edison, N.J./Edison) notched three digs and two aces.
For the Gothic Knights, their season now comes to a close with 17 wins, the most for the program since the 2007 season. Additionally, Toledo represents NJCU on the 2022 ECAC DIII Women's Volleyball Championships All-Tournament Team, along with six others and a Tournment MVP. The championship match, which took place later in the afternoon between Kean and Cabrini University, was captured by the top-seeded Cougars in four sets. See below for the full All-Tournament Team:
