Once the match got underway, which began roughly at 1:00 p.m, things moved quickly. Third doubles, which featured Waugh and junior
Eliza Clamor (Auckland, New Zealand/Rangitoto College), saw NJCU (4-5, 2-1 NJAC) pick up the 8-1 win first over Kean (6-7, 2-2 NJAC). Then, the sister pairing of junior
Giada Zorzan (Milan, Italy/Liceo dello Sport Marco Pantani) and freshman
Sara Zorzan (Milan, Italy/Liceo Falcone Borsellino) closed out first doubles with an 8-1 win, as well. Freshmen
Mila Gligorov (Milan, Italy/Collegio San Carlo) and
Vanshita Malhotra (Barwala, India/DAV Model School) closed out the doubles sweep with an 8-1 win of their own at #2.
Moving over to singles, during which the Gothic Knights picked up three scoreless sweeps, the matches continued to expedite. Sara Z. opened up with a scoreless sweep at fifth singles, followed moments later by a 6-1, 6-0, win at #6 singles by Waugh. Gligorov was next to complete her match at #4, also winning 6-1, 6-0. Giada Z. swept her match at first singles next, followed by a 6-1, 6-0, win for Clamor at #2. Mahlotra closed out the day with a scoreless sweep at third singles.
In the brief all-time series, the teams are now tied 1-1 as the Green and Gold avenge last season's defeat with a definitive sweep today.
