MAHWAH, N.J. – The New Jersey City University women's tennis team ran through New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) competitor Ramapo College in this evening's matchup on Tuesday, April 19. After today, the Gothic Knights improve to 4-1 in conference play, while the Roadrunners drop to 1-3. With the match at Rutgers-Camden on Thursday, April 21, NJCU has a chance to secure the #2 seed in the NJAC Championship and host a semifinal match at Lincoln Park Tennis Center next Wednesday, April 27.
NJCU (6-5, 4-1 NJAC) cleaned up the doubles after dropping no games to the Roadrunners (3-5, 1-3 NJAC) – the freshman duo of
Mila Gligorov (Milan, Italy/Collegio San Carlo) and
Vanshita Malhotra (Barwala, India/DAV Model School) walked off the court with the first win of the day at third doubles. Graduate student and team captain
Brittany Waugh (Stevenson Ranch, Calif./West Ranch) and junior
Eliza Clamor (Auckland, New Zealand/Rangitoto College) followed with their sweep at second doubles. Despite some nail-biting deuce play in the third game, the sister duo of junior
Giada Zorzan (Milan, Italy/Liceo dello Sport Marco Pantani) and rookie
Sara Zorzan (Milan, Italy/Liceo Falcone Borsellino) finished with an 8-0 victory at first doubles.
Single's play was cut short due to sudden rain, however, Gligorov and Waugh managed to sweep their sets at #4 and #6, respectively. The rest of the Jersey City squad each won their respecitve first sets, but due to rain, did not get to complete their matches.
