Women’s Tennis Shuts Down Rutgers-Camden, Secures #2 Seed in NJAC Tournament

The Gothic Knights are now set to host an NJAC Tournament Semifinal match at Lincoln Park Tennis Center on Wednesday, April 27.

CAMDEN, N.J. – Just like that, the New Jersey City University women's tennis team has wrapped up its second regular-season of New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) play since the return of the program in Fall 2020. After today's win against Rutgers University-Camden and this season's overall successful run, the team has not only secured a #2 seed in the NJAC tournament but is also set to host a Semifinal match at the Lincoln Park Tennis Center on Wednesday, Apr. 27.

The Green & Gold (7-5, 5-1 NJAC) quickly swept through the doubles, jumping to a 3-0 lead against the Scarlet Raptors (12-4, 2-3 NJAC). Graduate student and team captain Brittany Waugh (Stevenson Ranch, Calif./West Ranch) and junior Eliza Clamor (Auckland, New Zealand/Rangitoto College) kicked off the day with an 8-1 win at #3 doubles. The rookie duo of Mila Gligorov (Milan, Italy/Collegio San Carlo) and Vanshita Malhotra (Barwala, India/DAV Model School) followed with their own 8-1 win at #2 doubles. To finish off the hat trick, the Zorzan sisters also closed out with an 8-1 win at #1 doubles.

Freshman Sara Zorzan (Milan, Italy/Liceo Falcone Borsellino) got things started on the singles side with a 6-0, 6-1 win at #5 – Waugh followed with an identical score at the #6 spot. Malhotra walked off the court next with a 6-1, 6-1 win at #3, while Gligorov defeated her opponent 6-1, 6-1 at #5. Battling at #1 and #2, junior Giada Zorzan (Milan, Italy/Liceo dello Sport Marco Pantani) and Clamor were the final two on court, respectively. Zorzan claimed a 6-1, 6-2 victory just seconds before Clamor walked off with her own 6-1, 6-2 win.

UP NEXT:
Jersey City will face one last NCAA Division I opponent, Fordham University, on Saturday, April 23, at 1:00 p.m. As mentioned, the Gothic Knights are set to host an NJAC Semifinal matchup on Wednesday, Apr. 27 (time and opponent to be announced).  Come out to the Lincoln Park Tennis Center to show your support or catch all the action live on GothicVision.
