CAMDEN, N.J. – Just like that, the New Jersey City University women's tennis team has wrapped up its second regular-season of New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) play since the return of the program in Fall 2020. After today's win against Rutgers University-Camden and this season's overall successful run, the team has not only secured a #2 seed in the NJAC tournament but is also set to host a Semifinal match at the Lincoln Park Tennis Center on Wednesday, Apr. 27.
The Green & Gold (7-5, 5-1 NJAC) quickly swept through the doubles, jumping to a 3-0 lead against the Scarlet Raptors (12-4, 2-3 NJAC). Graduate student and team captain
Brittany Waugh (Stevenson Ranch, Calif./West Ranch) and junior
Eliza Clamor (Auckland, New Zealand/Rangitoto College) kicked off the day with an 8-1 win at #3 doubles. The rookie duo of
Mila Gligorov (Milan, Italy/Collegio San Carlo) and
Vanshita Malhotra (Barwala, India/DAV Model School) followed with their own 8-1 win at #2 doubles. To finish off the hat trick, the Zorzan sisters also closed out with an 8-1 win at #1 doubles.
Freshman
Sara Zorzan (Milan, Italy/Liceo Falcone Borsellino) got things started on the singles side with a 6-0, 6-1 win at #5 – Waugh followed with an identical score at the #6 spot. Malhotra walked off the court next with a 6-1, 6-1 win at #3, while Gligorov defeated her opponent 6-1, 6-1 at #5. Battling at #1 and #2, junior
Giada Zorzan (Milan, Italy/Liceo dello Sport Marco Pantani) and Clamor were the final two on court, respectively. Zorzan claimed a 6-1, 6-2 victory just seconds before Clamor walked off with her own 6-1, 6-2 win.
