BRONX — The New Jersey City University women's tennis team has wrapped up its 2022 regular-season at the home courts of Division I competitor, Fordham University. Jersey City faced the Rams this afternoon, April 23, but unfortunately returned home scoreless.
The Gothic Knights (7-6) were quickly met by Fordham's (12-4) momentum, after being blanked in #2 and #3 doubles. Due to the NCAA Division I clinch, the Zorzan sisters were unable to finish their match at the #1 spot.
Although no matches were picked up by NJCU, the Gothic Knights did manage to win some additional games in the sets. The closest match of the day was a battle between junior
Giada Zorzan (Milan, Italy/Liceo dello Sport Marco Pantani) and the Ram's #1 line. After dropping the first set, Giada Z. kicked on the heat to bring the match to a third set tiebreak. Despite the fight, she was edged out and ultimately fell at #1.
Freshman
Sara Zorzan (Milan, Italy/Liceo Falcone Borsellino) and graduate student captain
Brittany Waugh (Stevenson Ranch, Calif./West Ranch) both dropped their matches 6-0, 6-1 at #5 and #6, respectively. Junior
Eliza Clamor (Auckland, New Zealand/Rangitoto College) picked up a few more games, ending the match 6-1, 6-3 at #2. Rookie
Mila Gligorov (Milan, Italy/Collegio San Carlo) followed after dropping 6-3, 6-2 at #4. Fellow freshman
Vanshita Malhotra (Barwala, India/DAV Model School) battled through a close second set to finish down 6-1, 6-4.
