JERSEY CITY, N.J. — The New Jersey City University women's tennis team, seeded #2 in the 2022 New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) championship, hosted #3-seed Stockton University in the semifinal round this afternoon, Wednesday, April 27, at the Lincoln Park Tennis Courts. The Gothic Knights took care of business in the doubles round, winning all three matches, before winning the first two singles matches to clinch the 5-0 victory. With the win, NJCU advances to the NJAC title match on Saturday, April 30, against top-seeded The College of New Jersey in Ewing, N.J.

Things got started for Jersey City (8-6, 5-1 NJAC) at first doubles as the sister duo of junior
Giada Zorzan (Milan, Italy/Liceo dello Sport Marco Pantani) and freshman
Sara Zorzan (Milan, Italy/Liceo Falcone Borsellino) cruised to the 8-1 victory. Then, third doubles came to a close as junior
Eliza Clamor (Auckland, New Zealand/Rangitoto College) and graduate student captain
Brittany Waugh (Stevenson Ranch, Calif./West Ranch) finished off their opponents from Stockton (12-3, 4-2 NJAC), 8-5. The final match to finish was a battle at second doubles, where freshmen
Vanshita Malhotra (Barwala, India/DAV Model School) and
Mila Gligorov (Milan, Italy/Collegio San Carlo) battled all the way to an 8-6 victory.
Leading 3-0 heading into singles, NJCU needed just two more victories to seal the win — in conference playoffs, the match is complete once one team reached five wins — and the Gothic Knights took care of business quickly. The match, which started officially at 2:00 p.m., was over just after 4:00 p.m.
Clamor finished off her opponent first at second singles, winning in straight scoreless sets (6-0, 6-0). Then, Giada Z. did the same at first singles to clinch the victory and help NJCU advance to the NJAC title match.
