JERSEY CITY, N.J. — The New Jersey City University women's tennis team remains undefeated in Division III play after the Gothic Knights defeated William Paterson University, 9-0, today, Tuesday, April 5, at the Lincoln Park Tennis Courts to open up New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) play.
NJCU (3-4, 1-0 NJAC) opened things up quickly by winning both first and second doubles against the Pioneers (1-4, 0-3 NJAC) without dropping a single game. Sisters junior
Giada Zorzan (Milan, Italy/Liceo dello Sport Marco Pantani) and freshman
Sara Zorzan (Milan, Italy/Liceo Falcone Borsellino) teamed up for the win at first doubles, followed by freshmen
Mila Gligorov (Milan, Italy/Collegio San Carlo) and
Vanshita Malhotra (Barwala, India/DAV Model School) at second doubles. WPU forfeited third doubles and Jersey City took a 3-0 lead into singles play.
Junior
Eliza Clamor (Auckland, New Zealand/Rangitoto College) got things started at second singles and won her match in straight scoreless sets. Giada the did the same at first singles to clinch the overall team victory. Gligorov finished off her foe at third singles, 6-1, 6-0, before the day's final match went NJCU's way as sophomore
Lockslea Mayers (Westminster, Md./Westminster) won, 6-1, 6-3, at fourth singles. The Gothic Knights also picked up wins by forfeit at fifth and sixth singles for the 9-0 sweep.
