READING, Pa. — The New Jersey City University women's volleyball team split a pair of non-conference matches on the road on Saturday, Sept. 24. The Gothic Knights started off with a hard-fought four-set victory (25-21, 16-26, 25-22, 25-21) against Delaware Valley University and finished off with a tough 3-0 loss (25-14, 25-5, 25-17) to the host Alvernia University.
The standout of the afternoon for Jersey City (7-5) was sophomore hitter
Brenda Gonzalez (Union City, N.J./Dickinson), who notched a career- and match-best 16 kills on 34 swings with six errors (.294 hitting percentage) against the Aggies (6-5), thanks in part to a solid double-double performance — her first of the season — from junior setter
Sydney Lore (Marlton, N.J./Cherokee). The South Jersey-native dished out a match-best 33 assists to go with a season-high 14 digs, five kills, a match-high tying four aces and a pair of blocks.
Senior
Katrina Nguyendon (Union, N.J./Union) had a strong showing in the back row against Delaware Valley, leading all players with 19 digs to go with an ace and an assist, while senior defensive specialist
Krista Bartko (Edison, N.J./Edison) had seven digs and an ace. Sophomore outside
Rachael Pharo (Manahawkin, N.J./Southern Regional) came close to her first double-double of the season with eight kills, a season-best 11 digs, two aces, two blocks and an assist. Junior hitter

Leah Seickendick (Hoboken, N.J./Hudson Catholic) tied the match-high with three blocks, adding five kills.
Match number two was a bit tougher for the Gothic Knights as they took on the hosting Wolves (5-6).
