Women's Volleyball Sweeps Rosemont for First Victory of the Season

ROSEMONT, Pa. — Thanks to an overall team effort, the New Jersey City University women's volleyball team picked up its first victory of the 2022 season tonight, Tuesday, Sept. 6, on the road. The Gothic Knights swept host Rosemont College in three sets (25-17, 26-24, 25-12) as four different players had at least four kills in the match.

Jersey City (1-2) forced the Ravens (1-2) into 46 total errors on the night between receiving, serving, setting and attacking and used that advantage in the three-set sweep. Offensively, senior Paola Toledo (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic/Colegio Catolico San Rafael) once again led the way as the right side finished with a match-best nine kills and just two errors on 14 swings for a solid .500 hitting percentage.

Sophomore Dayshia Espinosa (El Paso, Texas/Pebble Hills), junior Ashley Jimenez (West New York, N.J./Memorial) and senior Leah Seickendick (Hoboken, N.J./Hudson Catholic) all contributed six points apiece in the win. Jimenez and Seickendick each notched five kills and a solo block, while Espinosa had four error-less kills on nine swings to go with two aces and five digs. Junior setter Sydney Lore (Marlton, N.J./Cherokee) led with a match-high total in assists for the third straight contest, dishing out 15 to go with a match-best three aces and five digs.

Defensively, senior liberos Krista Bartko (Edison, N.J./Edison) and Katrina Nguyendon (Union, N.J./Union) combined for 11 digs, with Bartko notching a match-best seven. As a team, NJCU combined for a .215 hitting percentage, compared to the Ravens' .053, including a -.172 performance in the third and final set.
